"I didn't get a dog to f***ing sit in the office for 10 hours." A Generation Z developer quit her job because the office wasn't pet-friendly. What do IT people think about it?

On Threads, a twilight developer said she turned down a job because she had to work 4-5 days in an office that wasn't pet-friendly. On LinkedIn, older IT professionals started discussing this.

"I refused to pursue the vacancy further because the office is not pet-friendly (and the vacancy is 4/5 days on-site). I apologize, of course, but in the 25th year of IT, the office is not pet-friendly, this is some kind of anecdote. Well, I got a dog, not so that it would come to the office for 10 hours," wrote the IT worker under the nickname owllyn.co.

This thread was shared on LinkedIn by Fedir Alpatov, Senior Fullstack Website Developer. IT professionals began discussing this approach to employment in the comments.

" I don't think the problem is the buzzers. Any self-respecting person, if they go to work in an office, will look for the most suitable conditions for themselves - especially if there is a lot to choose from. Remote work provides a lot of benefits, and if the company wants an office, then let it be kind enough to provide something more than a window in the office, an uncomfortable chair, cheap coffee and a water cooler," wrote Senior Software Engineer Oleksandr Kazmirchuk.

"Well, if she can find a job where she can work with a dog — okay, if she can't, then "that's not why I got a dog" will stop immediately."
The question is not about the buzzers, but about what she can choose. If she can find a job that suits her better in terms of all the factors, why not,” says Android & KMP Software Engineer Oleksiy S.

"And I'm not working to treat your dog allergies."
Pet-friendly is good if it doesn’t restrict others in the office. And anyway, I have a cat. Discrimination based on pet status! I demand a separate office for cat owners!”, joked Business/Systems Analyst Vladislava K.

"I don't have allergies, but I wouldn't really like to work among dogs (because cats are absolutely fine being left alone at home). Although, if they sit silently, then it's okay ," said Android Developer Yevgeny Maslak.

“In 2008, I went for an interview at a pet-friendly office. There was a dog there — it came to me so that I could scratch it. It was summer, I was wearing white pants and a white shirt. After the interview, I watched fleas jump on my white pants. I love dogs, but there is a nuance ,” shared Senior Node.js Developer Oleksandr Antonenko.

" Do you have a pet-friendly office (read "dog-friendly")? Then I'm not coming to you."
"Not everyone enjoys sneezing from fur and becoming victims of dog attacks and licks, so the situation is complicated. I wish her to find her place, but this place should be away from me," wrote Software Developer Yevgeny Zyuskin.

“Since 2017, it has been strange to me that someone still chooses to go to the office with a dog or a cat, or even a parrot. I assume that visiting the office from time to time is voluntary or necessary for joint meetings. But the people in this thread are so fighting for the absence of fur in the office that they forget that most people smell bad, they drink loudly, heat their strange food, make noise, and just walk around you while you try to concentrate. Therefore, it is very controversial whether it is pet-friendly or, better yet, people-free ,” shared Project Manager Vasilisa Borisova.

Recall that we told you how pet-friendly spaces are arranged in the offices of Ciklum, Capgemini Engineering, EVO, Railsware, Levi9 , and other IT companies.
