Romanian startup Lumen has developed glasses technology that replaces a guide dog for blind people — as the authors of the development assure, the glasses help the blind move around safely and independently.
According to the startup’s website, the technology has been tested by over 400 visually impaired users in 40 countries.
The manufacturer has incorporated artificial intelligence into the gadget, which allows the glasses to recognize obstacles above or below the ground and keep a blind person away from them.
“They calculate your safe path 100 times per second. It’s better than a guide dog,” Lumen assures.
The manufacturer provides a 24-month warranty on the gadget, and its price, including VAT, is 9,999 euros.
At the same time, delivery of glasses for the blind is currently only possible within Romania, and you will have to wait a long time for your copy — within 3-6 months from the moment of placing the order. For international orders, delivery is possible on an individual basis.
The gadget weighs about one kilogram and contains a number of sensors, as well as 6 cameras — 2 color and 4 infrared, forming stereoscopic pairs. The glasses are also equipped with two infrared laser projectors for use at night.
The glasses use GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS systems. They have voice recognition and currently support English and Romanian languages.
Inside is an ARM Cortex-A78AE CPU with 6 or 8 cores, 8 or 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, NVIDIA Ampere graphics card, and 128 GB/256 GB/1 TB of storage.
