The head of SoftServe Ukraine Anastasia Frolova spoke about the creation and further use of the tool in an interview with LIGA.net. According to her, the bot was developed in February 2022, at the very beginning of the full-scale invasion. The company has crisis response teams that have existed since the times of covid — the last time they met regarding the pandemic was in October 2021, and in December the meetings resumed due to the tension that preceded the full-scale war.
«In the event of a risk, colleagues receive a short survey about their condition, and if assistance is needed, the system instantly notifies the local crisis response team,» explains Frolov on how the bot works.
Although Safety Check Bot was created specifically for Ukrainian realities, SoftServe has already used the tool in other contexts — among workers in the Middle East and Latin America, as well as during floods in Poland.
The tool has become part of the company’s broader system of adapting to crisis conditions: practically every SoftServe office in Ukraine has two generators, and in Lviv the company maintains a separate «park» of backup generators. The offices, says Frolova, can switch to shelter mode, which, according to Frolova, was especially helpful during the first blackouts in Kyiv, when a record 60% of employees and their families visited the office. This winter, despite the more difficult conditions in the capital, office attendance did not increase significantly.
