«Criminals are spreading messages about non-existent social benefits in order to gain access to bank details and steal funds,» the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported .
These SMS messages talk about receiving UAH 6,500 in «winter support» or financial assistance from European countries. They also contain links to the attackers’ resources where they steal personal data.
«We urge you not to provide personal financial data, not to open suspicious links, and to report such cases to the police,» the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted.
Earlier, cyber police discovered a scam website masquerading as the web portal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. Users who clicked on the malicious link saw a message about a blocked computer and a demand to pay a fake fine. How did the scheme work?
