Artificial intelligence writes just over half of the articles on the internet, but the texts written by humans are more likely to reach readers, according to a new analysis by Graphite.
According to Notebookcheck, which reports Graphite research, in a sample of more than 65,000 pages for 2020-2025, 52% of materials had signs of machine generation. After a jump at the end of 2022, the share of such content stabilized at just above half. At the same time, in Google results, only about 14% of pages have signs of being completely «machine generated». In chatbot responses, the picture is similar: most quotes come from texts written by people.
Even if AI massively «stamps» texts, users see primarily prepared materials: search and recommendation systems filter out weak pages. This is important for publishers and editorial offices: volume does not replace editing, fact-checking, and a clear structure. Where there is a struggle for visibility, quality, not automation, wins in search results and assistant responses.
Graphite worked with a large amount of open data and used detectors that flag fragments that were likely written by models. A page was considered «AI-generated» if at least half of the text had such characteristics. The authors emphasize that the detection tools are not perfect, so the numbers should be taken as a guide, not an exact census of the network.
Last year, the industry predicted that the Internet would be «completely taken over» by generative models by 2026. The data shows otherwise: yes, «AI farms» — massive sites that flood the Internet with a stream of machine-generated text — are noticeable, but ranking mechanisms and audience habits lower them in the results. For Ukrainian media, this leads to a simple conclusion: write texts for people (with facts, context, and clear explanations) and not rely on «auto-generation» without an editor.
