AMI has already hired Alex LeBrun, co-founder and CEO of medical startup Nabla, which specializes in artificial intelligence-assisted transcription, as CEO, TechCrunch reports.
«Yes, AMI Labs is my new startup. I am the Executive Chairman. And Alex LeBrun is moving from CEO of Nabla to CEO of AMI Labs!» LeCun announced.
According to sources, AMI Labs is also looking to raise $500 million euros at a valuation of €3 billion before launch. Investors are willing to invest money in projects by famous scientists, so LeCun has a good chance of raising the desired funds.
AMI Labs is working on a world model for artificial intelligence. This is an alternative to LLM, where the AI tries to understand its environment (i.e. the world) in order to model cause-and-effect and «what-if» scenarios to predict outcomes. The creators of the world model believe that this is the answer to the problems of structural hallucinations in LLM.
Previously, Yann LeCun was an active critic of the overreliance on large language models, instead defending his approach, which teaches AI to understand and predict the physical world based on images and sensory data, rather than generating text.
«LLMs are great, they’re useful, we should invest in them — a lot of people will use them. They’re not the path to human-level intelligence. They’re just not. Right now they suck the air out of the room wherever they go — and so, essentially, there’s no resources left for anything else. So for the next revolution, we need to take a step back and figure out what’s missing from the current approaches,» the scientist noted .
