Men, trying to avoid mobilization, are looking for the most non-trivial ways to get a deferment. Here is one such case — here the defendant forged documents, allegedly becoming a programmer for the largest Ukrainian bank.
The Kyiv District Court of Odessa is considering the case of a pseudo-programmer who received guardianship of minor children in order to travel abroad. The man falsified documents, presenting himself to the board of trustees as a programmer at Privatbank. We tell the details of the story with a million-dollar bail.
According to the case materials, a native of the city of Rzhyshchiv, Kyiv region, is accused of illegally smuggling children abroad in a previous conspiracy by a group of people. For this, he faces up to seven years in prison.
«Programmer» of Privatbank
The fact is that in August 2023, the suspect expressed a desire to avoid mobilization in Ukraine and freely leave its borders. To do this, he turned to certain individuals who chose to appoint the latter as a guardian over children deprived of parental care as a way to ensure unhindered departure from Ukraine.
Thus, in mid-September 2023, the man applied to the Children’s Service of the Cherkasy City Council with an application to be included in the register of candidates for guardians. Then, with the assistance of certain individuals, the man received a decision to establish guardianship over minor children.
To this end, under unknown circumstances, a group of persons who facilitated the crime forged, in an unknown place, time and manner, a certificate of income from Privatbank, according to which the newly appointed guardian allegedly worked for the last six months in the financial institution as a programmer. They also forged an apartment rental agreement and a report on the living conditions of the potential guardian, which the man submitted to the Children’s Service of the Cherkasy City Council.
Subsequently, by decision of the executive committee of the Cherkasy City Council, taking into account the conclusion of the children’s service of the Cherkasy City Council «On the expediency of establishing guardianship and its compliance with the interests of children,» guardianship was established over two minors.
Nadal, a pseudo-programmer, using all the necessary documents to travel abroad, illegally smuggled children across the state border of Ukraine to Poland on March 14, 2024 at the international checkpoint for automobile traffic «Shehyni-Medika».
American Dream
The case file states that the officials who organized the scheme repeatedly smuggled the same godparent clients with their children to the United States. Moreover, they had an accomplice from overseas. The court has a lot of evidence that the orphan scheme was well-established among the officials — phone calls between the organizers of the scheme prove that it was not the first time it had been used.
The newly appointed guardian was presented as the godfather of the orphans, over whom he took custody to travel abroad.
The cost of such services, according to the case materials, is from $2,900 to $3,500.
Pledge
In April 2025, the man was notified of suspicion of illegally smuggling children across the border and bail was set at UAH 908,400. On June 16, the pre-trial investigation was extended until September 23, 2025. Currently, the court has extended the suspect’s detention until August 14, 2025 inclusive and set the bail at UAH 757,000.
An appeal may be filed against the decision within five days from the date of its announcement.
