In 2025, Ukrainians used payment cards 9.5 billion times for the amount of UAH 7.2 trillion. What were the most popular transactions?
As of January 1, 2026, Ukrainians have 148.7 million payment cards issued by Ukrainian banks and financial institutions. This is 12,7% more than in 2024, mainly due to state social support programs such as «National Cashback», «Winter Support», etc.

Payment card transactions have increased
Last year, Ukrainians made over 9,512.3 million card transactions for a total of UAH 7,157.2 billion. This is approximately 10% more than in 2024, the NBU reports.
Over 90% of all spending and transactions occur in Ukraine. The share of foreign operations remains stable at around 9%.
Most transactions were digital: 9,083.5 million non-cash transactions worth UAH 4,684.3 billion were made in Ukraine and abroad. This is 11% and 10,4% more, respectively, than in 2024.
The share of non-cash payments in the total volume of money increased to 65,4%, in terms of quantity — to 95,5% (in 2024 — 64,5% and 94,6%, respectively).
The most popular payment card transactions
Most often used in settlements in the retail and service network: over 6.7 billion transactions worth almost UAH 2,385.4 billion, as a percentage of the total — 74,3% and 50,9%, respectively.
Card-to-card transfers accounted for 26,3% (or UAH 1,231.9 billion) of all non-cash transactions with payment cards. Their number was 7,3% of all non-cash transactions with payment cards.
Payment for goods and services on the Internet accounted for 13,9% of the number and 16,4% of the amount of all non-cash transactions with payment cards. This is over 1.2 billion transactions for almost 770 billion UAH.
The average amount of one transaction in Ukraine in 2025:
in the retail chain — 354 UAH (in 2024 — 330 UAH),
from a card-to-card transfer — 1,864 UAH (in 2024 — 1,958 UAH),
for payment for goods and services on the Internet — 608 UAH (in 2024 — 561 UAH).
Infrastructure
In 2025, the number of payment terminals in retail and service networks increased by 12,5% compared to 2024, to 558.6 thousand (of which almost 85% were contactless terminals).
The number of points of sale and service provision that accept payment cards, including on the Internet, also increased by 18,5% compared to 2024, to 614.1 thousand in 2025.
The number of payment cards with which monthly expenditure transactions were carried out increased by 11,4% to 65.4 million pieces. Thus, the number of active cards increased by 11,4% to 65.4 million pieces (44% of issued payment cards) over the year.
The number of active contactless payment cards in December 2025 increased by 2,5% compared to December 2024, to 35.9 million cards. In total, more than half (55%) of active payment cards are contactless.
Tokenized payment cards (NFC technology) also remain popular. Thus, in December 2025, compared to December 2024, their number increased by a quarter (25.9%) — to 20.7 million. That is, every third active payment card is tokenized.
