A Ukrainian developer has created a suction cup called Skrynia. It is a Ukrainian AI stylist that dresses the user fashionably in seconds and without a subscription
Ukrainian developer Dmytro Petryk wrote a simple story in Threads a few days ago: lately he has been constantly wearing tracksuits, and when he was going for a walk, he finally decided to put on a white shirt. To make the look harmonious and suitable for the weather and the route — a walk along the cobblestones with a possible stop at a coffee shop — he didn’t think about his wardrobe himself, but consulted with a stylist in the application, which he develops himself. The result: a look selected for specific conditions and an excuse to make a little effort to go out and enjoy the little things. The application is called Skrynia, and this is just that rare case when the developer is the first and, apparently, very satisfied user of his own product.

The problem Skrynia is trying to solve is not about fashion
Dmytro’s story illustrates exactly the situation around which the entire product is built: a full wardrobe, but seemingly nothing to wear. On the application’s website, the team formulates this through three familiar scenarios — every morning you go through the same things in a circle and still don’t know how to combine them; half of your wardrobe is lying idle because you simply forgot about it; and when you put together an image, you change clothes ten times, send photos to friends with the question «what do you think?» — and in the end you wear the same thing as always.
Skrynia proposes to solve this problem not with general style advice or a catalog of other people’s clothes, but by working exclusively with what is already in your own closet: an AI stylist «dresses» the user with looks collected from their own, pre-digitized wardrobe.
How it works: three steps instead of a morning closet search
The product is built around a simple cycle of three actions.
First —wardrobe digitization. Items can be uploaded in batches, without manually signing each item: the application itself recognizes the item of clothing, places tags, and even generates a neat «studio» photo of the item from any — even crooked or taken on a hanger — photo. In the example on the website, the team shows uploading seven items at once.
Next is the assembly of the look. Here the user is left with a choice: to compose the look manually on the canvas, with full control over the composition, or to entrust the selection to AI, which will generate combinations from the available items.
And finally, try on and evaluate. You can try on the finished look on your own photo and ask AI to evaluate the result. The stylist at Skrynia doesn’t limit himself to a star rating — he writes detailed feedback in the format of «what went well» and «what could be improved»: for example, he praises the combination of a gray sweater with a navy vest and suede loafers as a calm, elegant casual look, but immediately suggests adding an accent — say, a leather messenger bag or a compact briefcase in a brown tone.
The main trick: not just put it on, but show «exactly where»
The most ambitious part of the product is what the team calls «the main magic»: visualizing the image not just on the user’s figure, but in a specific described scene. It is enough to choose a ready-made look and describe the situation in words — for example, «I am sitting on a bench near the Opera House in Lviv and drinking coffee» — and in a few seconds the AI shows this exact scene with the user in the selected image. This eliminates the main inconvenience of all «try on online» solutions — a static photo on a neutral background says little about whether the image will work in a real context: in a specific weather, location, or occasion, as in the case of Dmytro’s walk along the cobblestones.
No subscription: you only pay for the AI magic
In terms of business model, the team deliberately goes against the usual trend for the category. The website puts it bluntly: users are tired of subscriptions, paid features, and little benefit, so Skrynia works on a different principle — everything the application can do for free remains free, and you only need to pay for resource-intensive AI operations (image generation, scene visualization, studio photos) through an internal currency — «AI coins,» which you can take exactly as much as you really need.
Privacy is also stated explicitly here: according to the team, the photos are stored securely, used only for creating images and fitting, and are not shared with third parties.
Where to get it and what to expect next
Currently, Skrynia is only available on iPhone — the application can be downloaded from the App Store, the Android version is listed as «in development.» «We have a lot of ideas and features ahead of us that we are still implementing. Most of all, we want Skrynia to be truly useful every day — and not just another subscription on the list,» write the developers, inviting users to suggest new features to the team’s email, promising the same internal AI coins for useful ideas.
Lviv startup creating AI stylist iLea has launched a $41,000 Kickstarter campaign. There is less than a day left until the end of the campaign, and so far no one has supported the project.
