“While these changes are necessary to realize Snap’s long-term potential, we believe the rapid advancement of AI allows our teams to reduce routine work, increase process speed, and better support our community, partners, and advertisers,” the letter says. “We’ve already seen small teams using AI tools make significant progress on several important initiatives, including Snapchat+, improving the efficiency of the ad platform, and improving the Snap Lite infrastructure.”
Spiegel also noted that the company is closing more than 300 open positions. As of December 2025, Snap had about 5,261 full-time employees, TechCrunch reports .
The company says these cuts will reduce its annual cost base by more than $500 million by the second half of 2026. This should help "pave a clearer path to achieving net profit."
“Snap faces a difficult moment, caught between giants with enormous resources and nimble, rapidly growing startups,” the company said. “To meet this challenge, we are refocusing on a strategy of profitable growth.”
Employees working in the US will receive severance pay of four months' salary, health insurance, stock buyback rights, and support during the transition to a new job.
Snap joins a long list of tech companies that have made significant cuts this year, including Meta , Oracle, and Amazon .
