Ganeriwal told Business Insider that he joined Meta in a difficult 2023, which the company declared a "year of efficiency" and made several changes to the structure, including leveling management levels and laying off about 10,000 employees.

“When the company’s management works on a topic, which in the case of Meta was efficiency, I take it as a direct hint at what my priorities should be. I tried to stick to the same idea of efficiency, rather than scaling and growth at any cost, which was inherent in many technology companies before,” the programmer said.

According to Ganerival, if an employee is lucky enough to survive a series of layoffs, this does not mean that he does not need to change anything, so he advises being ready to change .
“I have to be willing to be thrown into the unknown and solve problems despite limitations like fewer colleagues and fewer resources. It also means I have to be open to change and re-prioritization—dropping what I’m working on now and changing priorities, even if it’s temporarily,” the IT guy explained.
Ganerival says it's not a good idea to delay your professional development . Despite numerous layoffs at the company, he continued to talk to his manager about setting new goals and working toward them.
“I have also taken steps to communicate more and remain visible to my manager and other members of my team, because this plays an important role in evaluating performance,” notes the Software Engineer.
He also said that sometimes it’s worth taking on tasks that no one else wants to do . Ganerival said that he “looked for problems and tasks that no one else wanted to work on,” because of bigger and more interesting projects. He believes that working on these unpopular tasks was one of the reasons for his promotions. According to the IT expert, such projects pay off in the long run because they provide experience that “very few people have.”
“For example, while everyone in the company was working on efficiency models and artificial intelligence, I focused on neglected engineering problems that united both of these areas,” Krishna Ganeriwal explained.
