According to Bloomberg, the company no longer plans to bring PlayStation Studios' internal single-player projects to PC. At the same time, the multi-platform course will be maintained for online games such as Marathon and Marvel Token, the publication’s sources say.
Sources claim that in recent weeks PlayStation has abandoned plans for a PC version of Ghost of Yotei and other games developed by internal studios, and the upcoming action game Saros is also being pushed to PS5. At the same time, releases that were already planned and are being created by external teams but published by PlayStation remain on schedule for now. Among such projects, Bloomberg names Death Stranding 2 and Kena: Scars of Kosmora, which, according to sources, are still expected on PC this year. Officially, PlayStation has not commented on the situation.
Among the reasons for the turnaround, the interlocutors cite weaker sales of some PC games and internal concerns that the wider availability of flagships could hit the console’s brand value and sales of the PS5 and successors. The decision was also influenced by the uneven policy of previous years, when PC releases were released with various delays, without a stable rhythm, and the requirement to register with the PlayStation Network to access some games caused a wave of criticism.
In 2020, Sony began releasing its games regularly on PC via Steam, gradually porting series like God of War and The Last of Us there. Now the company can return to the classic PlayStation focus on exclusivity, while Microsoft, on the contrary, is increasing multi-platform releases, and Nintendo traditionally keeps its own games on its console.
