Artificial intelligence company xAI has officially ceased to exist as a separate legal entity. Its founder Elon Musk has completed the process of merging the startup with his space corporation SpaceX. From now on, the developer of the chatbot Grok will work under a new brand — SpaceXAI, which has already received an updated logo.

The merger and rebranding followed Musk’s plans in May of this year. Details of the newly formed unit’s financials and strategic plans were revealed in documents filed for SpaceX’s recent initial public offering (IPO), Business Insider reports .
The deal to acquire xAI took place back in February 2026. Then SpaceX absorbed the startup along with its technologies, flagship chatbot Grok, and official social media accounts. In early July, users noticed a change in the name of the official xAI account to SpaceXAI, which also featured a short video with the logo transformation.
According to IPO documents, integrating artificial intelligence is a priority for SpaceX. The company’s capital expenditures on AI in 2025 amounted to $12.7 billion. This amount is more than three times the investment in the space segment and Starlink satellite internet combined.

Despite the fact that the AI direction currently brings the company a net loss, SpaceX management sees enormous potential in it, calling this market the largest «in the history of mankind.» The company is already planning to launch the technology into space: the deployment of the first «AI computing satellites» and the launch of space data centers are scheduled for 2028.
SpaceXAI’s ground infrastructure is also bringing its first major contracts. In particular, AI developer Anthropic has agreed to pay SpaceX $1.25 billion per month to lease the computing power of its Colossus supercomputer. A similar deal has been signed with Google, which will pay $920 million per month.
In June 2026, SpaceX held a historic IPO, the largest public offering in history. The company raised $75 billion at a total valuation of about $1.77 trillion, making Elon Musk the world’s first trillionaire.
