These AMD 9070s are the first to use RDNA 4 and FSR 4 technology. So yes, it’s a sensation! This RDNA 4 architecture is currently only for desktop computers. He added that Valve is «putting a lot of effort into creating drivers» for the RX 9070 GPU with RDNA 4, and asked «why is Valve so interested in collaborating on this architecture?»
One answer could be that Valve is working internally on desktop consoles that will be branded with the SteamOS license. The company could be looking at the AMD 9070 GPU as the main core for its desktop console. Valve’s Steam console is currently codenamed Fremont, but it’s not known what it will be called officially. It’s also possible that this GPU could be used to create some kind of external GPU for the Steam Deck 2, or simply to allow third parties to build their own developments.
Almost a decade ago, Valve had already tried to create the Steam Machine, a gaming PC that was supposed to give gamers a console experience, but with PC games.
