AI for the apocalypse: developer creates Survival LLM — an offline assistant with survival and first aid instructions

When a user asks a question, the app searches for relevant information in its library and passes it to the AI ​​model. You can then open the materials used and see which passages formed the basis of the answer. If the AI ​​answers without searching the library, based only on the information learned during the training of the model, the app will separately notify you about this.

The library covers everything from medicine and survival to gardening, cooking, and radio communications. Sources include FEMA guidelines, CDC guidelines, military manuals, wikiHow, iFixit, and Stack Exchange answers.

You can also add your own documents: PDFs, Word files, e-books, or notes. For example, upload instructions to the generator. Then the AI ​​can search for answers in them as well.

Survival LLM runs on Windows 10/11 and Macs with Apple Silicon processors. However, it requires at least 16 GB of RAM to work. During installation, the application automatically checks the characteristics of the computer and selects the appropriate AI model.

For example, devices with 16–31 GB of RAM will receive IBM Granite 4.2 8B. More powerful computers can run Qwen3.8 27B or NVIDIA Nemotron 3.5 Super, and for Windows with 32 GB of memory and more, Nemotron 3.5 Lightning is provided.
