"The technical possibility is there. But there are "moral questions" here." TAF Industries CEO explained why FPV drones with AI still do not choose the target on their own

TAF Industries CEO Volodymyr Zinovsky claims that technologically, nothing currently prevents the use of FPV drones with artificial intelligence, which will independently select a target, but the risks of mistakenly using this weapon against our own military personnel and civilians currently outweigh.

He stated this in an interview with dev.ua.

“If we talk about fully autonomous destruction by a drone that is sent to a certain sector for a conditional 10-20 or more km and chooses a target there itself, then at the moment we do not implement or sell such solutions. Although the technical possibility exists. But here the same “moral questions” arise, because now no one knows what to do with a drone that has flown somewhere on its own, is in another place and “makes its own decision” about destruction,” said the CEO of TAF Industries.

At the same time, as Zinovsky added, drones-waiters, in particular from TAF Industries, which are in ambush and autonomously strike the target, are a completely public and popular solution on the front. Although, in fact, such a drone also carries out the attack, reacting simply to movement and not having comprehensive information about the potential target.

“In our vision, such a drone-waiter, which is triggered by movement and chooses the target itself, is actually identical to a mine in terms of its operating principle. We lay mines in a certain area and in fact we do not know who this mine will hit, but the mine has a certain trigger for activation. For some reason, we do not see any moral dilemmas in laying mines, although the only difference is that mines lie on the ground and this is “acceptable”, and a drone that lies on the ground for a certain time, but takes off at the right moment and hits the target is “unacceptable” for someone,” the head of the group of companies expressed his vision.

He made it clear that for classic FPV drones, autonomy is limited by Last Mile technology, where the operator captures the target, and after capturing the target, the drone moves towards it completely autonomously and carries out the attack on its own.

“We have such solutions and the state actively encourages their use. But no more,” Zinovsky stated.

As dev.ua wrote, the CEO of TAF Industries explained the benefits of partnerships with manufacturers who already have ready-made technology.

Also, according to Volodymyr Zinovsky, the Ukrainian deftech industry has expressed a common vision of changes regarding the need to improve the arms export model, and is negotiating with the government to resolve a number of aspects.
