Mobile operator lifecell has officially decommissioned SDH data transmission technology, which has been the basis of the company’s transport network for over 15 years. The company has switched to modern IP/MPLS and optical transport technologies with higher speeds.
The press release notes that lifecell’s SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) transport network began construction in 2004 and by 2010 had over 500 multiplexers. It was used to transmit traffic between network nodes, national and international connections, and partially even for Ethernet.
As Internet traffic grew and the market transitioned to IP solutions, SDH technology gradually lost its relevance. It had limited bandwidth, became inefficient in scaling, and required significant resources to support.
The project of final decommissioning of the SDH network with the transition to IP/Ethernet/MPLS/OTN technologies has been ongoing in stages since the beginning of 2023 and is now officially completed. The technical team has implemented a full transition to IP/MPLS and optical transport technologies, which has allowed to improve the quality of communication for subscribers and scale the network to meet traffic growth.
«This is an important stage in the development of our network. We are freeing up resources to implement new technologies and making communication for our subscribers even faster, more reliable and flexible,» said Serhiy Tereshchuk, Technical Director of the DVL Group of Companies.
«Це час, щоб стояти за країну. Навіть не думайте про свою зарплатню». Інтерв'ю з CEO lifecell Ісметом Язиджи
CEO мобільного оператора lifecell Ісмет Язиджи — з Північного Кіпру. Але за п’ять років життя в Україні він так звик до місця, що асоціює цю країну зі своїм другим домом. Ісмет обожнює Київ. І минулого тижня сюди повернувся. Він був вражений від того, що тут побачив.
