Telegram has submitted an official application to ICANN (the Corporation for the Administration of Domain Names and IP Addresses) to obtain its own .gram domain zone.
This was reported by Telegram founder Pavel Durov.
If approved, over a billion messenger users will be able to obtain personal second-level domains tied to their usernames.
Key features:
Users will be able to use their own nicknames as web addresses: for example, @durov will have the domain durov.gram;
Developers and regular users will be able to create interactive websites that will be hosted directly on Telegram servers with a single command.
This innovation will significantly simplify the launch of web projects and deepen integration within the messenger ecosystem.
Recall that in July, Telegram short links in the .me domain zone stopped opening in browsers around the world . Montenegrin company DomainME, which administers the .me top-level domain, reported that the t.me domain was blocked due to compliance with sanctions by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). During the incident, the messenger automatically switched to the telegram.me domain to generate new links. A day later, t.me became available again.
