A Ukrainian purchased «spy» equipment for $1,500 to pass a theoretical exam on the Rules of the Road at one of the territorial service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
The offense occurred back in 2025, according to the case from the Unified Register of Court Decisions. A native of Lviv region purchased a T-shirt with an IR video camera disguised as a button, as well as a 3G/4G information transmission module for the mini-camera «HQcam HQ-4G105Mr», a charger, a microphone and a SIM card of the operator «Kyivstar». He paid $1,500 for them.
The Ukrainian planned to use these gadgets to take a theoretical exam at the Ministry of Internal Affairs' TSC in the village of Pidhorodne, Ternopil district. The camera was supposed to broadcast questions from the traffic rules exam, and the correct answers would come through a microphone.
The examination determined that these devices belong to special technical means of secretly obtaining information, so the man was charged with a criminal offense under Part 1 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The accused pleaded guilty, repented, and reached a plea agreement with the investigation. The court sentenced him to 1,000 tax-free minimum incomes, which is UAH 17,000.
