The era of Black Box programming and the shortage of robotic engineers: Taras Kytsmey on the large-scale transformation of the IT market at Tech Week Odesa
The Ukrainian IT industry, including one of its leaders, SoftServe, is entering a phase of unprecedented transformation. Over the past 30 years, the sector has not faced challenges of this scale. This was stated by SoftServe co-founder and board member Taras Kytsmey during his speech at Tech Week Odesa.
According to him, the usual development model (Agile SDLC) is becoming a thing of the past, giving way to new technological trends, including artificial intelligence and humanoid robots.
From Agile to “Agentic SDLC”: How AI is Changing the Work of Programmers
Taras Kytsmey noted that the traditional development chain, where architects, business analysts, and designers spent a long time creating specifications and code, is transforming into so-called Black Box programming.
"Specifications will be input, artificial intelligence will generate code, retest, deploy it — and we will use it. We must reformat to be leaders in Agentic SDLC," Kitsmey emphasized.
The co-founder of SoftServe divided the application of AI into two areas:
AI assistants help developers write code faster.
AI agents (digital engineers) completely replace humans at certain stages.
In this regard, the role of Ukrainian programmers should shift towards developing high-quality specifications in human language. If the specification is poorly written, AI begins to hallucinate and produce unnecessary code.
New niches: AI consulting and the crazy demand for Nvidia specialists
Market transformation is already opening up new highly profitable niches where Ukrainian companies should take leading positions:
AI Consult: Consulting businesses on AI implementation. At SoftServe, this area has grown by 100% over the past year.
AI Agent Development: Creating autonomous digital assistants, something that previously did not exist on the market at all.
Partnership with NVIDIA: SoftServe is a super partner of the tech giant, and the company currently urgently needs at least 500 Nvidia specialists to maintain its leading position.
"Hardware is ready, brains are lacking": SoftServe brought a humanoid robot
Kitsmey paid special attention to the field of robotics, which artificial intelligence has literally "revived." He said that SoftServe recently brought a humanoid robot to its robotics office, which has a human-like appearance, arms, legs, and fingers.
"It seems like it can do anything. If you want, it will cook soup. All that's left is to program it. The hardware is already made, and this is an endless area where you need to reprogram it," the speaker shared.
However, the industry has already faced a severe shortage of personnel in Ukraine. Kitsmey gave an example from his own practice: for a new major robotics project, the company urgently needed 60 robotic engineers. Only two were found in Ukraine.
Although SoftServe will close this quota through its offices in Mexico, Poland, and Colombia, the company's founder called on the Ukrainian community to actively train such specialists at home:
"We will meet our quota of robotic engineers... but it pains me why we didn't bring it to Ukraine. This is your idea, there is someone to train. A great transformation awaits us."
