The Sinking City is an open-world detective adventure game inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Players take on the role of a private detective investigating the mysteries of the half-submerged city of Oakmont.
The remaster offers the following improvements:
«We plan to do big things with The Sinking City, starting with the sequel and beyond. So, after our well-known issues with the original, it’s great that this positive moment has become part of the game’s confusing story, and that we are the ones to fully address it. Making it free for all of our fans is our way of thanking them for supporting us all this time, no matter what,» said Sergey Oganesyan, Head of Publishing at Frogwares, in a press release.
His mention of the problems with the first part could be a reference to the game’s lukewarm reception by critics and players (The Sinking City was rated 71 on Metacritic and 69 on OpenCritic) or to the fight for the rights to the game with the French publisher. After the release of the original The Sinking City, Frogwares accused Nacon of non-payment of royalties and began to defend its rights in court. While the lawsuit was ongoing, Nacon sold the game on Steam, and the Ukrainian studio implemented the project through its own website.
The Sinking City Remastered is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. This is a free update for all owners of The Sinking City on these platforms. Players who do not have the original version can currently purchase the remaster with a 50% discount. In the Ukrainian region of Steam, the project costs 449 UAH; the game has Ukrainian text localization.
Recall that in March Frogwares launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the creation of The Sinking City 2. In less than a day, the developers raised twice as much and completed the campaign with 554,000 euros. The additional funds will be spent on new investigations and monster variations, as well as adding a new type of enemy to the game.
