Threads and Instagram will show political content in recommendations: users will have three options to view
Meta continues to change its moderation and content guidelines. Instagram and Threads will begin including political content in their recommendations, a departure from policies both platforms adopted last year. The changes Meta is making appear to be an attempt to curry favor with President-elect Donald Trump.
Meta continues to change its moderation and content guidelines. Instagram and Threads will begin including political content in their recommendations, a departure from policies both platforms adopted last year. The changes Meta is making appear to be an attempt to curry favor with President-elect Donald Trump.
Last year, Instagram and Threads made it possible for users to choose whether or not to see political content. Now, you can't completely opt out of it, but you can choose how often you see it, writes Engadget.
As stated by Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, there will be three levels of political content that Instagram and Threads users will be able to choose to view: less, standard (which will be the default), and more.
“It has proven impractical to draw a red line around what is and is not political content,” Mosseri wrote.
The changes will begin rolling out this week in the US and in the rest of the world over the coming weeks.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company would abandon third-party fact-checkers in favor of a Community Notes model for Facebook, Instagram and Threads, mimicking the approach used at X (formerly Twitter). Nick Clegg has resigned as Meta's president of global affairs, replaced by Joel Kaplan, who has good ties to Republicans in Washington.
