Apple CEO Tim Cook has donated $1 million to the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump, following the example of many other tech entrepreneurs.
According to Axios, it is Cook’s personal funds, as no donation from Apple to the inaugural committee is planned.
The publication recalls that Trump and Cook have a long history of communication and cooperation, which included many meetings during Trump’s first term as president and a recent dinner at Mar-a-Lago last month. The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Tim Cook spent years building a personal relationship with Trump.
Axios recalls that one of Trump’s financial disclosure forms, published immediately after he left office, reported that Cook had given him a $5999 Mac Pro computer made at an Austin factory they visited together in 2019.
Other Silicon Valley donors to Trump’s inauguration include Amazon, Meta, Uber, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
In addition, not only reputable financial institutions with a history of Goldman Sachs and Bank of America, but also cryptocurrency exchanges Kraken and Coinbase donated very significant amounts to the inauguration.
From the automotive sector, Toyota, Ford, and General Motors donated at least $1 million each.
In turn, dev.ua wrote earlier that Apple will pay $95 million in the case of wiretapping users through Siri.
