Microsoft top manager complains about AI slop from employees: LinkedIn mocks the company's self-irony

Microsoft Vice President Ryan Roslansky, who leads Office and LinkedIn, has come under fire and ridicule for a post he made about the dominance of generated content at work. The head of the company, which is one of the world's leading proponents of artificial intelligence, complained about the prevalence of generated content at work.
"AI garbage doesn't just appear on social media, it happens in everyday work. Someone sent me a document that was clearly generated by AI. I read it, understood it, asked my AI to do a concise translation, and didn't get a single new thought out of it... It's kind of a vicious circle," Roslansky wrote.
He urged colleagues and users not to turn technology into "an expensive way to avoid reading and writing texts in an ocean of monotony," but to use AI only as an auxiliary tool. Roslansky's post was supported by Microsoft President Brad Smith, writes Windows Central.
Self-criticism or hypocrisy?
Experts and specialized media outlets have responded to the top manager's statement with humor and indignation. Microsoft is now actively integrating Copilot into all of its products, from Windows to Office and LinkedIn, which often causes user irritation due to intrusive features and a drop in content quality.
The “closed loop” situation that Roslansky mentioned is known in academia as “model collapse.” As new AI models are trained on content from the internet, which is already filled with generated “garbage,” the technology begins to degrade, digesting its own products.
Resistance from within and without
Roslansky is not the only one at Microsoft who is expressing dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.
Xbox chief Asha Sharma has repeatedly used the term AI slop to describe failed AI experiments in the gaming industry. LinkedIn was also forced to replace its “improve with AI” button with a way to complain about AI content due to a sharp decline in the quality of posts.
Against the backdrop of imposed AI hysteria, aggressive data center expansion, and deteriorating Windows performance, users are increasingly looking for alternatives — in particular, there is a growing popularity of Linux operating systems.
Windows Central journalists note that instead of suffering from the consequences, Microsoft management should take responsibility for the chaos they themselves unleashed on the market.
Як нейромережі бачать вільну та незалежну Україну? Тест dev.ua
