Rockstar has announced the prices for Grand Theft Auto 6 and named the benefits of the Ultimate Edition
Despite gamers' fears and analysts' predictions of a possible $100 price tag for the base version, Rockstar Games has set the price of the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 at $80. This price for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles is only $10 higher than the current industry standard of $70. The developers also confirmed the preliminary release date and announced that physical boxed copies will be sold without traditional discs.
This is stated in the official press release of Rockstar Games. In addition to the basic version, the company offers the Ultimate Edition for $100, which will contain additional cosmetic content and game locations. Pre-orders, as previously planned, will start on June 25.
Despite the boxed versions being available in retail stores, Rockstar is completely abandoning physical media for GTA 6. Buyers of physical copies will only receive a collector’s box with a digital download code. This practice is becoming increasingly common in the industry — Nintendo previously took a similar step for some of its major releases (such as Pokémon Pokopia).
Pre-downloading of digital copies and activation of codes from boxed editions will begin on November 12, a week before the official release.
According to the developers, the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition will offer content that will be partially or completely limited in the standard edition:
Exclusive vehicles, weapons, and clothing. Buyers of the more expensive edition will receive a unique starter set of items.
Full car customization. In the basic version of the game, users will not have access to one special car workshop with advanced modification features.
Access to all tattoo parlors and barbershops. While most of these character customization points will also appear in the standard edition, some exclusive salons will only be available in the Ultimate version.
Additional story activities. Missions and side quests that are intended to better reveal the character and backstory of the main characters.

All users who pre-order by November 20th will receive a digital bonus Vintage Vice City Pack, featuring retro cars and cosmetic items. In addition, digital pre-orders will entitle you to a free month of GTA+.
Setting the price at $80 for the standard edition of GTA 6 ended long discussions among analysts, who predicted the cost of the basic version even at $100. Although Rockstar avoided such a radical step, such a price tag for the most anticipated game of the decade could become a precedent for other AAA game publishers.
Currently, the only precedent for a game selling for $80 was Nintendo’s launch of Mario Kart World for the Switch 2 console. At the same time, Microsoft Corporation considered raising the prices of its flagship releases to this level last year, but later abandoned such plans.
