The rapid growth of the Ukrainian segment of Twitch began in 2022 after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. At that time, many of our Ukrainians refused to watch Russian-language streams and turned their attention to Ukrainian-language content creators. If in the first quarter of 2022 the volume of Ukrainian-language broadcasts on Twitch amounted to approximately 830 thousand hours of viewing, then in the second quarter this figure increased to 2.3 million. At the beginning of 2025, the volume of the Ukrainian-language segment of Twitch reached 16.6 million hours of viewing per quarter, which became a new record for the language.
For the most part, the growth dynamics of the Ukrainian-speaking segment of Twitch looks organic, although in mid-2024 there was a slight decline in the volume of views. The reason for this was an external factor, namely problems with power outages due to abnormal heat. Due to constant fan outages, Ukrainian-speaking streamers simply did not have the opportunity to broadcast often (and viewers had limited opportunities to watch them).
Another important indicator of the growth of the Ukrainian-language Twitch audience is the number of unique authorized viewers on Ukrainian-language channels (people who are registered on Twitch and watched Ukrainian-language broadcasts directly on the platform). In the first quarter of 2025, the number of such viewers amounted to 1.47 million people, which was a new record for the Ukrainian language on Twitch.
In early 2025, the number of unique viewers on Ukrainian-language Twitch broadcasts also increased significantly thanks to esports: Counter-Strike started a busy season with a large number of major tournaments, and Natus Vincere played in almost all of them. There were also many interesting events outside of esports: the games of the Ukrainian national football team in the Nations League, the European Athletics Championship, the National Selection for Eurovision 2025, a fitness marathon from the popular streamer Mykhailo Lebiga, etc.
