Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, some churches in the city of Chernihiv have become able to conduct remote baptisms of children, reports the resource Сheline.
According to the rector of the Cathedral of the Holy Great Martyr Catherine Roman (Kinyk), in some cases he had to perform the sacrament of baptism via video link. This is due to the fact, the priest of the OCU explained, that one of the relatives or godparents was at the front at that time.
"There are times when parents want to take the godchild, but the godchild is currently at the front, fighting for Ukraine. There were times when they simply turned on the phone, when the godchild got in touch, and here, on the spot, was the godchild's wife, holding the phone, and he was also present at the baptism," said the rector of the Catherine's Church.
Father Roman assures that this method of baptism can be considered complete, because all the necessary religious canons are observed. Since a person, even online, has directly spiritually participated in the sacrament. Later, when the godfather returns, he will be able to take the baby in his arms and share his love and warmth with her.
