Google has introduced a new feature in Gemini — Canvas, which will help you write or edit documents or code with instant real-time display of changes.
Canvas is launching globally today for Gemini and Gemini Advanced users in all languages where the Gemini app is available. However, code preview is not currently available on mobile devices. To use the new feature, simply select Canvas in the query bar.
Canvas will help you quickly turn ideas into working prototypes of web applications, Python scripts, games, simulations, and other interactive solutions.
The new feature gives developers the ability to quickly create the first working versions of their projects and provides a space for students to quickly master programming concepts. Throughout the process, Gemini collaborates with users to make consistent changes to the code.
In Canvas, you can generate and preview HTML/React code and other web application prototypes to see how the design looks.
“For example, you want to create an email subscription form for your website. You can ask Gemini to generate the HTML code for the form and then preview the result as it will look and function in your web application. Easily make changes to input fields or add call-to-action buttons, instantly preview the updated look, and share the results with others,” the company says in a press release.
So Canvas simplifies the entire programming process, allowing you to focus on creating, editing, and sharing code and design in one place, without having to switch between multiple applications.
Canvas helps you create high-quality drafts, then quickly refine them with Gemini’s suggestions. You can also update specific sections or entire texts, change tone, length, or formatting with quick editing tools.
For example, highlight a paragraph and ask Gemini to make it more concise, professional, or informal.
You can share the content you create with colleagues by simply exporting it to Google Docs with one click.
