«We have a project estimate and everyone has their own application. The only thing is, of course, there is an upper limit. We cannot finance infinitely large sums. But I want to say that in this competition we significantly increased the cost of one two-year project — up to 10 million UAH,» said Deputy Minister of Education and Science Denys Kurbatov in an interview with dev.ua.
According to the Deputy Minister, this is a significantly larger figure than was the practice of the ministry before, because in general, state funding for scientific developments was previously limited to amounts of 1–1.5 million UAH, with a maximum of 3 million UAH per project.
Kurbatov also added that it is allowed to include the cost of equipment in financing.
The Deputy Head of the Ministry of Education and Science stated that the total budget for such purposes in 2025 is more or less similar to what it was for 2024, but the government is working with international partners to attract additional funds and finance more projects.
«Our Ministry of Strategic Industry alone submitted more than 30 requests for this competition… Accordingly, we are looking for a resource,» Kurbatov explained.
Let us recall that last year, the state for the first time announced a competition for scientific developments according to a new principle, independently determining what it needed and turning to scientists as executors of a specific state order with clear terms of reference.
As a result, already this year, based on the results of the competition, the Cabinet of Ministers allocated funding for 22 scientific developments, providing scientists with a total of UAH 186 million and setting them a two-year deadline.
