The BBC reports on the problems in the operation of Revolut, citing the company’s official data. The first failures were recorded by the system at 10:47 am, and the Downdetector service registered more than 1,500 complaints from users in the first hours.
The large-scale incident affected both retail users and business customers. The failure limited the work of registration and authorization, card payments, account replenishment, domestic and international transfers, as well as cash withdrawals at ATMs. There were also problems with currency exchange, cryptocurrency, stock trading, vaults and support service. In the corporate segment, payment APIs for merchants, Sandbox and business applications are unavailable.
Revolut representatives confirmed the existence of technical difficulties, but assured the safety of finances. "We are currently experiencing disruptions affecting a number of services. We can confirm that all our customers' funds and data are safe," a company spokesperson said in a comment to the BBC.
The company has not yet officially disclosed the exact causes of the incident, but similar problems were observed at other financial institutions in the UK at the same time, including Lloyds Bank and Bank of Scotland. Sources and analysts attribute the large-scale outages to a failure in Google Cloud’s cloud infrastructure in the europe-west2 region (UK), where increased error rates and network failures were recorded.
