A “washing machine for people” has been launched in Japan. How much does such a device cost and is it available to “mere mortals”?

The Japanese company Science Inc has officially launched the so-called «washing machine for people» — Mirai Human Washing Machine.

According to Interesting Engineering, this device was first introduced at the World Expo in Osaka earlier this year, but now Japanese consumers can already purchase it.

The machine acts as a high-tech automatic spa capsule that can wash a client from head to toe in a matter of minutes, and the user is able to comfortably recline in the seat while the machine works on their cleanliness.

After the session begins, the capsule is closed and the machine «washes» the person with microbubbles. It then rinses off the bubbles and can dry the client, while the procedure is accompanied by relaxing music. The washing process lasts about 15 minutes.

The capsule measures 2.5 meters long, 1 meter wide, and 2.6 meters high, making it large enough for most people to lie comfortably inside. The cleansing is done using bubbles so small that they can penetrate pores, removing oil, dirt, and dead skin cells.

At the same time, sensors in the capsule monitor the person’s vital signs to prevent fainting, panic, or health problems.

The machine is currently priced at 60 million yen, or $385,000, making it an accessory for the wealthy. The product is currently aimed at the luxury commercial spa market, rather than being available as a simple home product.

Science Inc. is currently planning to release a limited run of 40-50 units, each hand-assembled. One Japanese hotel has already committed to buying the first unit produced, and another 5-8 units have been reserved by other potential customers.

The publication reminds that a similar concept first appeared at an exhibition in Osaka back in 1970, and then it was presented by Sanyo Electric (now Panasonic Holdings).

Previously, dev.ua already wrote about the prototype of this device. In November last year, it was reported that the machine was 70% ready. In the future, the Science Co company is ready to release this machine for home use.
