«The problem today is that the enemy has priority in using fiber-optic drones on the battlefield, and our task is to go out and improve the quantity and quality of the use of these products», — the USF said.
The module was named «Silkworm» because of a similar process in nature, when a silkworm butterfly in the caterpillar stage forms a cocoon and uses a thread that resembles fiber optics.
Two coil options are provided for kamikaze drones: one with an integrated warhead, the other with a built-in battery, notes «Military».
FPV drones equipped with the Silkworm module can fly over 20 km and maintain maneuverability thanks to a fiber optic extension. USF says that drone crews do not feel the difference between radio-controlled models and fiber optic models with the Silkworm.
It is noted that the Unmanned Systems Forces successfully tested the fiber optic module with ground robotic complexes. It is noted that the Silkworm can be combined with surface and underwater drones.
Let us recall that in December last year, a dev.ua journalist visited a training ground where the Dronarium organization, which specializes in UAVs, was testing fiber-optic drones in difficult terrain.
