Both rescued servicemen suffered serious injuries to their limbs and were in a “gray” zone approximately five kilometers from the border with Russia, so ground evacuation was impossible due to the difficult terrain, water obstacles, and the threat of enemy FPV drones.
"During the week, CODE 9.2 servicemen planned, prepared and successfully conducted two complex evacuation missions. The SkyFall team, which is the developer and manufacturer of the StarGate casevac, also participated in their preparation and implementation," the unit informed.
Along with the casevac drone, Vampire heavy attack drones were used during the operation.
During one of the missions, StarGate covered almost 30 km to the military position and about the same distance in the opposite direction with a fighter on board. In the area of the operation, the enemy actively used electronic warfare means, but the pilots managed to complete the flight in the absence of satellite navigation and successfully evacuate.
"In the future, we plan to make changes to the staff structure of our regiment and create a separate medical aviation unit within the medical company. It will specialize directly in evacuating the wounded from the battlefield by air," said the commander of the 475th Airborne Division "CODE 9.2" Oleksandr Nastenko, call sign "Flint."
As dev.ua reported, SkyFall has developed a drone for evacuating the wounded by air — it carries up to 150 kg and can repel enemy drones with a slingshot.
Back in May, dev.ua wrote that the Ukrainian military is already testing heavy aerial drones capable of evacuating the wounded from the battlefield.
