“I couldn’t find a better place than to sit on the toilet and continue solving the problem.” An Aitite from Odessa told how he had a spicy technical interview during a massive attack and received an offer
Software Engineering Manager Volodymyr Shaitan shared a story from his own experience about the circumstances in which he had to solve a task at a technical interview due to shelling by Russians.
Software Engineering Manager Volodymyr Shaitan shared a story from his own experience about the circumstances in which he had to solve a task at a technical interview due to shelling by Russians.
«Once I had an interview for a project, it was some time ago. I was sitting calmly at my desk and going through a two-hour technical interview (theory + algorithmic problems). About an hour later, the lights in my apartment in Odessa were turned off — of course, I was ready for this, and I immediately „switched“ to mobile Internet. Unfortunately, the network was very weak, and I started migrating around the apartment here and there, looking for a better connection. It took a little time, about 2-3 minutes, while I was solving a problem on my knee. But then the anxiety started, drones were shot down and all that,» he said .
In the end, Volodymyr hid in the safest place in the apartment — the bathroom. «It ended with me going to the bathroom because the action was pretty intense. Of course, I couldn’t find a better place than to sit on the toilet and continue solving the puzzle,» he shared.
The feedback after the interview was positive. However, the IT worker experienced an unexpected feeling: «At the end of the interview, I found myself sitting on the toilet with positive feedback after the interview and completely numb legs, which I didn’t even think about when I suddenly stood up and swam.»
Volodymyr jokes: it wasn’t exactly a very pleasant experience, but I did manage to successfully resolve everything and pass the interview. «It would have been a great story if it had ended positively… but the project was closed a month later,» the specialist adds.
In the comments to the post, colleagues support the IT worker, calling his story a case of stress resistance and the ability to get out of trouble.
«It’s okay, I just have a long bathtub. And the acoustics are good.» Interview in the bathtub, candidate in bed, rejection because of an astrologer, and a few more of the most non-trivial hiring stories from recruiters
