"There are no universal recipes": HR JatApp explained how to stay afloat when work is mixed with anxiety
Working during war, sirens, and news overload is no longer an exception, but a reality for Ukrainian specialists. JatApp HR partner Anastasia Nakonechna shared her experience of remaining functional in a situation that no one chose, but has to be lived through.
Working during war, sirens, and news overload is no longer an exception, but a reality for Ukrainian specialists. JatApp HR partner Anastasia Nakonechna shared her experience of remaining functional in a situation that no one chose, but has to be lived through.
“Traditional approaches to productivity fail,” writes Anastasia Nakonechna, HR partner at Ukrainian IT company JatApp, in her LinkedIn post . She describes how daily work changes when anxiety, uncertainty, and news noise are constantly present in the background.
According to her, in the new reality, it is not enough to simply be a professional - you need internal flexibility, honesty with yourself, security rituals, and control over the information field.
Here are five principles that, according to an HR expert, help you "not get lost in the chaos":
Small rituals: short physical activities, favorite things, a “to-do list without tantrums,” and other habits that give the illusion of order.
Honesty: not from a resume, but real honesty — when you acknowledge your limitations and discuss them with the team.
Flexibility: the ability to change plans, move deadlines, or abandon irrelevant things.
Empathy: not only for others, but also for yourself - as the basis of team safety.
Information hygiene: limiting the news stream to 15 minutes twice a day, filtering channels as a way to preserve the nervous system.
“It used to seem to me that the question of ‘how to survive stress’ was more about books and advice. Now it’s about daily experiences that you didn’t order, but have to live through,” Nakonechna admits.
In her opinion, it is precisely maintaining an "inner presence" that becomes critically important: not losing a sense of self even in situations when everything around is going haywire.
Who are JatApp?
This is a Ukrainian IT company that creates mobile and desktop products for the global market. The team has over 100 specialists, including in the areas of development, UI/UX, and product management. Since the start of the full-scale war, the company has increased its focus on the mental well-being of its teams, including through flexible schedules, transparent communication, and regular HR support.
Let us remind you that in one of our previous articles , the CEO of HR agency HR-Lab, Yulia Pashchenko, shared the story of hiring a specialist who refused to work on a schedule with two days off, demanding a third.
A man from Aitiv, who was fired 4 times in 4 years, decided to work two jobs at once. Now he earns $280,000 and has come up with his own strategy for avoiding stress
“The candidate said that female engineers often make him stressed.” A talent acquisition specialist talked about interviewing with a specialist who “had never met normal female engineers.”
"Freeloader detected." The employer suggested that the designer create a page of an unfinished project to assess her skills. The people of Aitovo call this approach "business on test"
