Ukrainian independent developer Denys Yatsenko is independently developing Unixgram, a social platform that combines the functions of a messenger and a social network. He spent about $200 of his own money to start the project, and has not yet attracted external investment.

Denis creates Unixgram — from client and server parts to infrastructure and mobile application. The main stack of the project — React, TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Prisma and Redis. The author also develops his own encryption protocol UnixProto.
Denys told dev.ua that the idea for the project arose from the desire to go through the full cycle of creating a modern social platform, and not be limited to a pet project. He himself is working on the architecture, server side, clients, infrastructure, and mobile application.
«I wanted to go through the entire process of creating a social network on my own: from architecture and interaction protocols to a mobile application, web version, and messaging system,» says the developer.
The author does not want to position Unixgram as a copy of existing messengers or social networks. The platform should combine communication, social feed, profiles, publications, and other social functions in one product.
The developer lists speed, UX, and mobile experience as priorities. He is also developing his own technology base and encryption protocol.
Unixgram currently has 343 registered users. To further engage the audience, Denys plans to use organic growth, social networks, content, publications in Ukrainian media, and short videos.
At the same time, the main focus is not on monetization at the moment. «The main task now is to form an active audience,» the author notes.
In the future, he plans to earn money from premium features, internal currency, digital goods, and other paid features of the platform. He has not yet predicted the payback period for the project.
At this stage, Unixgram is fully funded by its founder. It has not attracted any external investments and is not actively seeking them at this time.
At the same time, in the future, Denys is considering the possibility of strategic investments that could accelerate the development of the platform.
The immediate plans include increasing the audience, developing a mobile application and web version, improving social functions, the messaging system, profiles, and publications, as well as preparing for monetization. Separately, the developer plans to scale the infrastructure in line with the growth in the number of users.
