«We know how important it is to stay connected on the road — to write to family and friends, to work, to show children a cartoon, or simply to stay in touch with world news. That is why we have equipped one of Ukrzaliznytsia’s flagship trains with Wi-Fi access in test mode», the carrier’s press service reported.
It is noted that on the «Hutsulshchyna» train No. 95/96 Kyiv — Rakhiv, passengers of all cars of both train compositions will now have access to the network. They will have 10 minutes of free access, which will allow them to test the service and send urgent messages.
Full access to high-speed Internet during the trip will cost 120 UAH without traffic restrictions per day. Payment can be made online with any payment card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
At the same time, 5 GB of traffic will be provided without any speed restrictions. Apparently, after reaching this limit, shaping will be turned on, which will limit the Internet speed to a certain level.
«The technology is provided by modern Starlink equipment, which was tested on some diplomatic flights of Ukrzaliznytsia and has proven its efficiency in difficult Ukrainian conditions. The „Hutsulshchyna“ wagons are equipped by a partner without attracting investments from UZ», the company notes.
If the project is successful, Ukrzaliznytsia will scale it to other trains through a «transparent competition for the provision of the service».
We will remind you that in 2024, 16 Intercity trains will be equipped with Wi-Fi, including Starlink. The total cost of the project was UAH 78.89 million: UAH 65.03 million for equipment and UAH 13.15 million for services.
