Apple has seen its first wave of layoffs and cost-cutting. According to available information, the company's new CEO, John Turnus, is planning a series of small layoffs in large teams, as well as the closure of a number of promising projects.
Recently, specialists from the Apple Vision Pro headset development unit, as well as employees of the Apple Fitness+ service, were laid off. According to Bloomberg, employees across the company are preparing for further personnel decisions. Ternus's main goal is to reduce costs and focus on developing fewer products, as well as change the schedule and frequency of new device releases.
In particular, some of the current layoffs are related to individual performance indicators of employees, and not just to banal budget savings. At the same time, the new head of the company John Turnus is closing some initiatives in the early stages of development to redirect resources to key areas. In addition, Apple divisions that were counting on increasing staff and budgets for 2027 have had these plans canceled: the number of employees will be fixed at the current level, which effectively means a freeze on hiring new specialists.
Despite the alarming expectations among the team, large-scale layoffs remain unconfirmed. The report suggests that the new CEO has already canceled previously planned layoffs of about 5,000 AppleCare support employees. It was originally expected that some of their duties would be taken over by artificial intelligence systems, but Apple decided to put those plans on hold.
It is also noted that the cuts in the Apple Fitness+ area are more a reformatting of the service's work than an attempt to save on studio costs.
