Monobank co-founder Oleg Gorohovsky spoke about this pilot project. He cited a study that found that in 2019, about 81 million tons of food remained uneaten or unsold in the United States — 30-40% of the food supply — worth about $408 billion, which is about 130 billion servings of food.
«We investigated whether there is such a problem in Ukraine, and it turned out that there is. That is why we are launching a pilot of a new project — Secret Boxes. Now establishments can sell sets that will contain various dishes, pastries, and desserts prepared today. But the contents of your box will remain a surprise until you pick it up at the establishment», — wrote Horokhovsky.
According to him, the price of the boxes is always fixed, but they contain food that is definitely more expensive. He attached a photo of a box for 99 UAH with donuts worth 337 UAH to his post. Oleg Horohovsky reported that more than 20 Kyiv establishments are participating in the project and added that the number of boxes is very limited.
The «Secret Boxes» page on the Expirenza website states that establishments are selling boxes of food that they didn’t manage to sell during the day, but at special prices. There are 3 levels of boxes: for 99 UAH, 149 UAH, and 199 UAH, and their contents must be twice as expensive. They can only be ordered at a certain time — Expirenza app users will receive a notification about this.

Recall that last spring, the Expirenza application was updated to version 2.0. It received new functionality, including collections with tips on where to go and what to try, called «Eatlists», as well as the «Treatment» function, which allows you to treat loved ones even in other cities.
