“My brain didn’t care what I was doing — it just needed the dopamine loop.” Vibecoding helped an IT guy “cure” his gaming “addiction”
IT-specialist, who spent many hours playing games after work, advises those who feel the pursuit of emotions instead of real pleasure to try vibecoding. He explains that he is not against games, but the vibecoding process gives a similar drive, but with the difference that as a result, a person creates something real.
IT-specialist, who spent many hours playing games after work, advises those who feel the pursuit of emotions instead of real pleasure to try vibecoding. He explains that he is not against games, but the vibecoding process gives a similar drive, but with the difference that as a result, a person creates something real.
Reddit user CluePsychological937 said that he had been working in the IT industry for many years and had a serious habit of playing War Thunder for 3-5 hours a night. He described a vicious cycle where meaningless defeats would force him to play «one last battle» late into the night. Despite the irritation and lack of real results, he returned to the game every time to unlock new vehicles, having already reached a combat rating of 8.3–9 in several game nations.
«It turned out my brain didn’t care what I was doing, it just needed the dopamine loop. That ‘what if I try this?’ loop. That ‘okay, that didn’t work, what about THIS?’ loop. In War Thunder I got that by hoping that the next car would be fun. In vibecoding I get that by directly creating something new.»
The author compares the dopamine rush of working on code to the feeling of hitting the perfect shot in a game from two kilometers away. He explains that after 45 minutes of writing prompts, fixing conflicts in git, and final testing, he feels the same excitement as in the game. However, the main difference for him is that the result is a real application on the screen, and not just another portion of in-game currency or experience.
«It’s not that I decided to quit playing. There was no pathetic moment like „that’s it, I’m changing my life“. I just… stopped feeling this craving. Now, when I wake up, I open my laptop, start thinking about the architecture, storming new features, writing prompts — and suddenly it’s midnight, and I’ve missed my daily login bonus. I still launch War Thunder when I need a break from programming. In fact, games have changed their status: from the main activity, they have turned into a rest from it,» the IT guy concluded.
