Anthropic's AI bot can compose a speech in seconds, but the company still hires a human writer — with a salary of $295,000 to $345,000 per year.

Anthropic is looking for more than just someone who can choose words well. The company needs a specialist with 8 years of experience who can quickly master technical concepts, help top managers hone their strategic thinking, and maintain composure during breaking news, Business Insider reports .
While some on LinkedIn have been skeptical about the idea that a new hire's work will be used to train artificial intelligence (one Oregon writer, for example, likened it to "the author building his own gallows"), communications experts say the job opening reveals the true value of human creativity.
Professional writers and PR people noted in a comment to Business Insider that the main thing for young authors is to understand: the work begins long before the text is typed, and good command of words is only part of the profession.
“When speed becomes cheap, judgment becomes expensive. I think we’re seeing this value extend to the role of the writer,” said Anne Handley, director of content at MarketingProfs and author of Everybody Writes.
The “Executive Communications Writer” position comes amid Anthropic’s own reporting on how AI is changing the company’s internal structure. According to internal data, junior employees in technical departments accounted for just 9% of hiring in June, compared to 27% at the start of 2025 .
In May, Anthropic CFO Krishna Rao said that AI was already writing 90% of the company’s code , shifting the need for office roles toward oversight, critical thinking, and strategy rather than pure execution. Rao added that the company might even expand hiring because “there’s enough work for everyone.”
Moreover, the compensation for a communications position at Anthropic is extremely high compared to similar positions in the market. For comparison: Amazon Web Services offers an Executive Communications Manager position in Seattle with an annual salary ranging from $126,700 to $171,400.
