Microsoft is rolling out an update to Windows 11 that introduces a special Xbox full-screen gaming mode for laptops, desktops, and tablets. The new feature is designed to minimize background distractions and bring the PC experience closer to the console interface.
This is stated in the official Microsoft blog. The innovation is currently available to Windows Insider program participants in the Release Preview channels.
Xbox Mode offers an optimized interface that puts gaming first. It’s designed specifically for controller navigation, allowing for a quick transition from work to gaming. Users will be able to access not only their Xbox and Game Pass library, but also games installed from other popular stores.
«We create experiences designed with when, where, and how people play in mind. Full-screen mode provides an immersive experience for players who want a console-like feel while maintaining the flexibility and choice that PC players value,» the company notes.

There are several ways to enable the new mode: through the Xbox app, Game Bar settings, or using the Win + F11 key combination. The developers have also added the ability to switch via the Task View icon on the taskbar. To return to the regular desktop, simply select the appropriate option in the menu or press the Windows key — a system restart is not required.
The update is rolling out in two phases. First, features will be rolled out to devices in stages based on their readiness, while a general rollout will begin later for all compatible PCs at the same time.
With this update, Microsoft continues to develop the Xbox app for PC, which is the central hub for Game Pass subscribers, and recently introduced improved library management features and integration with the Epic Games and Steam stores.
