LingGuang, an AI app for building apps using plain text prompts, launched last Tuesday and has received more than a million downloads in four days. By Monday, the number of downloads had surpassed two million, according to China’s Ant Group, which created the tool.
On Monday, LingGuang ranked first among free utilities in the Chinese App Store and sixth among all free apps.
Ant Group, an affiliate of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group, said Thursday that its system had experienced a crash three days after launch due to excessive traffic. Its most popular feature, a flash-program tool, was temporarily down but was quickly restored.
The Flash program allows users to create personalized interactive apps in 30 seconds using natural language prompts. The company says users have already created kid activity generators, car expense calculators, and more.
«LingGuang gives everyone their own personal AI developer: someone who can write code, create visuals, build apps, and turn complex ideas into simple solutions — right in your pocket,» Ant Group CTO He Zhengyu said in a press release Tuesday.
In a press release on Monday, the company added that the rapid growth makes LingGuang «a key player to watch in the global AI race,» and highlighted that the app reached one million downloads faster than OpenAI ChatGPT and Sora.
In addition to the flash program, LingGuang is positioned as a multimodal AI tool that can generate 3D models, interactive graphics, animations, and other visualizations to explain abstract concepts. It also has an «AGI camera» that understands scenes in real time and helps users analyze or edit images and videos «on the fly.»
LingGuang is available internationally — in the Apple App Store, major Android stores, and on the web.
Ant Group, founded by Chinese businessman and billionaire Jack Ma, has significantly increased its AI activity this year. In June, the company launched the AI-based medical application AQ. And in September, it introduced the R1, a humanoid robot that is positioned as a competitor to Tesla Optimus.
