Billionaire Elon Musk was caught in a scandal when, during the celebration of the inauguration of US President Donald Trump, he made two gestures in a row that are very similar to the Nazi salute «Sieg Heil». The Internet immediately reacted to this act of Musk with thousands of memes, and dev.ua collected the best from the Ukrainian segment of social networks.

What did Musk do?
«I just want to thank you for making this happen,» the owner of SpaceX, X and Tesla, the richest man on earth, a top donor and Trump adviser, said to Trump supporters at the Capital One Arena in Washington, The Guardian reports.
Musk on stage struck himself in the chest with his right hand, fingers spread, and then threw his right hand diagonally upward, fingers together, palm facing down. As the crowd roared, Musk turned and repeated the gesture, lowering his hand and palm slightly.
«My heart goes out to you. Because of you, the future of civilization is secured. Because of you. We will have safe cities, finally safe cities. Secure borders, smart spending. Basics. And we will send Doge to Mars,» Musk said, referring to the so-called «Department of Government Efficiency,» the federal cost-cutting agency to which Musk was appointed by Trump. In his inauguration speech, Trump said the United States would send astronauts to Mars.

Social media users were shocked by Musk’s gesture. «I’m a historian of fascism. It was a Nazi salute and very militant», — commented Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a history professor at New York University.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which combats anti-Semitism, defines the Nazi salute as «raising the outstretched right hand with the palm down.» However, it regardedthe billionaire’s action as «an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute.» For this, Elon thanked the ADL in the comments.
Musk did not immediately comment on his gesture, although he did repost a video of his speech, which included a second salute, and supported memes that try to turn videos of his gestures into jokes.
