Emergency power outages have been introduced on the left bank of Kyiv. Ukrenergo warns that restrictions may last up to 5 hours in the summer

By order of Ukrenergo, emergency power outages have been introduced on the left bank of Kyiv. The reason is the consequences of a technological disruption.

The situation in the capital

Ukrenergo reported that emergency power outages in several districts of Kyiv were introduced due to a technological failure at one of the energy facilities.

Power engineers have already begun emergency restoration work and are trying to repair the damaged equipment as soon as possible. They promise to lift the restrictions as soon as the situation in the power system stabilizes, and they advise you to follow the official pages of the distribution system operator for updates.

Power outages are possible in July-August.

In the summer, due to the widespread use of air conditioners in homes and offices, electricity consumption during the heat wave can increase by 25%. Although the power system currently has sufficient capacity to cover these peak loads, the situation is significantly complicated by constant hostile attacks on energy infrastructure.

If prolonged heat above 30 degrees coincides with new massive strikes, the duration of restrictions during peak hours could reach up to 5 hours. Thanks to nuclear generation, imports and renewable sources, it will be possible to provide light to the daytime area, but to balance the system during heavy evening peaks, energy companies will have to resort to turning off consumers.

"Potentially, after massive shelling, it is possible not even 2-3 hours, but up to 5 hours during peak periods. We understand that we will cover the daytime zone at the expense of nuclear generation, imports, distributed and renewable generation, but the evening peaks, unfortunately, will need to be balanced at the expense of our consumers," said Vitaliy Zaychenko, Chairman of the Board of Ukrenergo, in an interview with RBC Ukraine.
