Ukrainian developer Taras Ivanov has released a major update to his non-profit service «Free Video Translator.» After almost a year of development, the project has received a multi-voice dubbing feature, the ability to upload finished videos with superimposed translation, and a completely rewritten and accelerated Telegram bot.

The author of the project announced this on his Telegram channel. This is the first post in a planned series of publications about technical changes that the developer has been working on in his free time.
«Almost a year has passed since the last post. Despite this silence, I have been devoting my free time to developing new features for the „Free Video Translator“. So many changes have accumulated that it is impossible to remain silent any longer, so it is time to share the news,» Taras Ivanov noted.
The most anticipated innovation for users was the automatic editing function. Now, right next to the player with the translation, a button has appeared that allows you to edit and download a finished video with an integrated audio track. The service is paid and costs from 10 to 50 hryvnias, depending on the length of the file. For Premium subscription holders, a free limit is provided, after which a 50% discount applies.
The developer also introduced two major exclusive options for Premium users:
Multi-voice translation — each speaker in the video gets their own voice, taking into account their gender (currently four male and four female voices are available).
Translation of uploaded files — users can now send video files directly to the bot, not just YouTube links.
Significant changes have also been made to the logic of the playback algorithms. The author has completely removed the tool for artificially slowing down the video, which was previously used for speakers who spoke too fast, but often caused desynchronization. Instead, the system now optimizes and slightly shortens the translated text without losing content, so that it naturally fits into the original timing without changing the video speed.
In addition, the developer rewrote the Telegram bot from scratch, so it now responds to requests almost instantly even under high load. The bot removed the captcha and laid the architecture for rapid localization to other languages in the future.
An important technical achievement was the solution to the problem of blocking requests from YouTube. Previously, the author had to buy paid proxy servers and register additional Google accounts, which were quickly blocked. The new free solution allows stable access to videos without third-party profiles.
The changes also affected the optimization of the infrastructure: translations are now compressed and stored on Amazon S3 in the .opus format instead of the heavy .wav, which significantly saves resources. The system also now analyzes the quality of ready-made subtitles on YouTube in advance and, if they are damaged, automatically transcribes the video on the platform’s own servers.
Ivanov reported that " Free Video Translator " already has 14,870 users. Over the past eight months, the project has fully paid for itself through paid downloads and Premium subscriptions. Currently, due to the introduction of new features, the service is temporarily operating at a small loss, which the developer is covering from its own savings.
Recall that Taras Ivanov launched the «Free Video Translator» service in 2024. He translates and voices YouTube videos in Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar for free.
