In 2024, the mobile operator Vodafone Ukraine significantly expanded its infrastructure, modernized its networks, and announced active preparations for the implementation of 5G. In 2024, the mobile operator Vodafone Ukraine significantly expanded its infrastructure, modernized its networks, and announced active preparations for the implementation of 5G. The company’s total capital investments amounted to UAH 6.2 billion, and the total assets of fiber-optic networks exceeded 50,000 km.
This became known from the annual report of Vodafone Ukraine, in which the company focuses on the development of broadband networks and increasing the speed of mobile Internet, using additional radio frequency resources obtained in 2024.
«A gradual modernization of the network has begun in preparation for the introduction of new technologies, in particular 5G, which will be implemented over the next few years. All this will create a basic foundation for the development of the country’s digital economy, especially during the post-war recovery period», — Vodafone noted.
Cities where infrastructure is improving
The company plans to modernize urban regional fixed Internet networks in Kharkiv, Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv, and Ivano-Frankivsk by expanding ring connections from 10-20 Gigabit links to 100 Gigabit.
«We are striving to increase network capacity to improve the quality of services for active subscribers, as well as to ensure the ability to effectively connect new customers. In the modernization of FTTx (Fiber to the x) networks based on GPON technology, we see an opportunity to switch subscribers to non-volatile Internet,» Vodafone notes.
In the long term, Vodafone Ukraine aims to provide fixed internet services to 1,000,000 subscribers. In 2025, the company plans to double the speed of fiber optic network construction, covering 6,828 new homes.
The report indicates that in 2024, Vodafone Ukraine actively expanded its home Internet network using GPON technology, providing the Vodafone Gigabit Net service to new users in the cities of Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Odesa, Chornomorsk, Vyshneve, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Mykolaiv. As of December 31, 2024, the total number of households covered by Internet coverage (including GPON) reached 1.84 million, and the number of subscribers increased to 289,000 customers.
It is noted that in 2024, Vodafone built more than 1,817 km of fiber-optic communication lines.
Ensuring energy efficiency
Following attacks with a critical impact on the energy infrastructure in Ukraine in the spring of 2024, the company decided to double its planned investments in energy independence. Vodafone plans to invest significantly in the purchase of additional generating capacities and autonomous energy supply systems. In particular, the company purchased new lithium-ferrum type (LiFePO4) batteries, which demonstrate high reliability in difficult operating conditions.
«In addition, we are actively expanding our generating capacity by purchasing equipment to provide power to base stations. This year, we have provided the network with 347 generators of various types, which significantly increases our ability to ensure continuous network operation and flexibility in the use of resources,» the report states.
The total number of generator sets deployed to support the network at the end of 2024 was over 2,000 and «continually increasing,» Vodafone said.
Vodafone’s investments and network size in Ukraine
In total, during 2024, Vodafone Ukraine invested UAH 5.7 billion in infrastructure. More than two-thirds of the investments were directed to construction and renovation. Total capital investments in the reporting year amounted to UAH 6.2 billion, of which 15% was invested in the purchase of radio frequency licenses.

Overall, the Group’s [Vodafone Ukraine companies] fiber-optic network assets reached 50,517 km in 2024, which includes networks for fixed (18,280 km) and mobile Internet (32,237 km),» Vodafone reported.
