Vodafone Ukraine, together with Huawei, has implemented the PowerStar 2.0 AI platform for the first time in Ukraine to optimize energy consumption at base stations.
PowerStar 2.0 is an AI platform that analyzes network load and subscriber activity in real time and automatically turns off unused resources, frequencies, channels, and equipment at base stations during periods of low activity — mostly at night or during daytime hours in less congested areas. All data is processed within the Vodafone Ukraine perimeter, for which the company has installed additional servers.
In the first month of using PowerStar 2.0 at over 6,000 base stations, electricity savings amounted to 6.5%, or over 12 MWh per day.
Vodafone Ukraine Technical Director Yevgeny Frunza noted that the implementation of the technology is important for network stability, especially during possible blackouts, as it extends the battery life of base stations.
Director of Marketing and Sales of Operator Solutions at Huawei Ukraine, Xi Lun, emphasized that the system controls the quality of communication services while optimizing energy consumption and is an example of innovation for sustainable development.
