To reduce the weight of the glasses, Meta has moved the processor, battery and storage into a separate unit that can be attached to a pocket or bag. Thanks to this, they are about five times lighter than the Quest 3 and do not require a massive strap around the head. Separate controllers are also not needed, as the interface can be controlled with gaze, hand gestures and voice. The system also has Meta AI built into the system.
Meta also calls the new product the first VR device with IMAX Enhanced certification. The glasses will allow you to watch 3D movies, and special virtual locations will be prepared for some Disney+ content, such as Tatooine or Avengers Tower.
The company is also betting on sports broadcasts. After launch, Meta promises more than 100 immersive sports events per year in partnership with ESPN, MLB, NBC Sports, TNT Sports, and UFC. They should give the viewer the effect of "seats right next to the field" without having to go to the stadium.
Meta VR Glasses can also be used as a virtual office. You can place several screens in front of you, and turn the flat surface into a keyboard and touchpad. At the same time, the user will continue to see the place he is in. In addition, the glasses' cameras transmit images of the surrounding world to the display, so the user will be able to see the table, phone, people and everything nearby without taking off the headset.
The glasses will also feature Hologram Calling, which will create a photorealistic digital version of the user with their facial expressions and reactions in real time. During a call, another person wearing Meta VR Glasses will see the avatar as if they were standing in front of them.
And for video games, Meta promises over 75 titles with gesture controls at launch, and hundreds more games will be available to play through Xbox Cloud Gaming.
