Vstup-2026 became a record during the Great War: computer science and automation are among the leaders in state orders

This year's campaign to Ukrainian higher education institutions has been the most massive since the start of the full-scale invasion. The overall demand for education is growing, with applicants demonstrating increased interest in technical areas - from classical computer science to robotics and electrical engineering.
According to official data from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, a total of over 1.3 million applications were submitted for bachelor's and medical master's degrees. According to the results of enrollment, over 237,000 people became bachelor's students, which is 16% more than last year's figures. Most of the applicants for the budget received places in their most desired first priority.
This year's state funding is focused on training specialists who are critical to the country's reconstruction and the development of innovations. Computer science has traditionally been among the top three budget-funded programs — the state will finance the education of almost three thousand first-year IT students.
Related hardware and engineering specialties also showed significant growth. Compared to 2025, the volume of enrollments for budget places in the direction of automation, computer-integrated technologies and robotics increased by almost 30%, and in electrical engineering - by over 40%. The demand for these professions was noticeable even at the stage of submitting documents: the number of those wishing to study robotics increased by 53%, and interest in aviation and rocket and space technology jumped by almost 75%.
Despite ongoing security challenges, universities in Kyiv, Lviv, and Kharkiv remain the leaders in terms of new student enrollment. Also this year, more than six thousand people enrolled in PhD (postgraduate) programs.
An important financial innovation of the campaign was the introduction of state grants. Now more than half of the entrants receive one form or another of support: classic budget places or grants that partially cover the cost of the contract. For master's students, the amount of such a grant is from 27 to 40,000 hryvnias per year.
In parallel with the record enrollment, the digitalization of the educational infrastructure itself continues. With the support of a project from the World Bank Ukraine, the government is attracting funding to modernize the software on which the electronic admission and testing systems are based. A large-scale update of the Unified State Electronic Database on Education (UEDEBO) is expected, which should increase the stability and technological capabilities of the system for the next admission campaigns.
